Raleigh, NC – Demand drives everything in a distribution center. At the HD Supply White Cap in Raleigh, NC, the demand is for Sikaflex-1A. Tim Long, White Cap’s purchasing manager for the Carolinas, explained to us that they use a computer system to decide which products to carry. Although HD supply has roughly 160 locations representing nearly every state, Tim has to pay close attention to the needs of the Carolina contractors, as they are likely to be different from the Hawaiian ones. Interestingly, a popular market in North Carolina and Virginia is Tilt-up construction. This process involves making concrete walls flat on the ground to create a level finish. The walls are then lifted up in braces, until they can be sealed together. Why didn’t I think of that?
No matter which way you’d like to build your walls, Branch Manager Mark Blanchard assured us that you can probably find it at White Cap. With the largest portion of their clientele being sub-contractors. White Cap sells everything needed to build a building, from commodities to rebar to safety-equipment. We even bought some safety vests. As a result of being so versatile, you can find several Sika products in the White Cap warehouse. Sikadur 31, 32 and 35, Sika Armatec, and SikaTop Plus are among the products in stock. Thanks to Tim, the concrete contractors of the Carolinas have the Sika products they need.
The 30,000 square foot warehouse supplies all of the White Cap locations in North and South Carolina. Orders are assembled and placed on an automatic wrapping machine, before being shipped off. It’s amazing how many steps are taken at the distribution center alone. If you own a concrete contractor company or are thinking about starting one, check out your local HD Supply. Chances are that they have what you’re looking for!
