Houston, TX – What does the Cowboy’s AT&T Stadium and the HEB Retail/Grocery Support Center Expansion have in common? Both are protected by Sika Roofing membrane. The HEB support center in Houston will be covered in nearly two million square feet of Sarnafil membrane installed using the Rhinobond Roofing System by the end of the summer. After an unexpected hailstorm compromised many of the roofs on HEB’s campus, the Sarnafil membrane was chosen to protect the facilities. As Sika Roofing’s Craig Pahl explained to us, temperature control and waterproofing are both very important for these buildings, as storage for food products requires very specific conditions. The new roofing system will aid in the climate control of all the HEB buildings, from the humidity control in the dry storage building to the temperature control in the cold storage building.
RYAN, the development team for the new dry storage facility did things a bit differently on this project by erecting the entire building structure before pouring a single slab of concrete. In a strategic move, the roofing system will be completely installed and watertight before pouring the concrete floor. This is because unexpected rain can ruin the concrete’s curing process and lead to problems down the road. Sika Roofing’s Carlos Reyes evaluates the seams of the roof to ensure water cannot penetrate. With the expertise of Houston’s Sika Roofing office, the HEB Manufacturing and Distribution Center can now handle any unexpected weather that passes through the Houston area.
