Auburn Hills, MI – Safelite is the largest automotive glass replacement company in the U.S., operating in all 50 states. We had the opportunity to see a Safelite windshield installation in action with Sika’s Rick Puckett and Safelite District Manager, Shawn Reardon. A Chrysler employee had a cracked windshield on his Jeep Grand Cherokee and scheduled a Safelite replacement while he was at work. Because of Safelite’s efficient replacement process, this employee was able to safely operate his vehicle before lunchtime.
As we pulled into the parking garage at the Chrysler headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan Oscar, the Safelite technician, was preparing for the installation process. Oscar put meticulous care into removing the existing windshield. Jesse from Safelite explained their unique removal system by cutting through the existing urethane with string rather than a razor blade. A wrong move with a blade can cause unnecessary damage to the vehicle’s interior. Once the old windshield is removed, Oscar carefully cleaned the new windshield with Sika Aktivator Pro and primed it with Sika Primer-207. After applying the SikaTack Mach 30 to the vehicle, the new windshield is accurately put in place using a lever arm. This tool allows Safelite technicians to install heavy windshields without help, while also ensuring the windshield fits into place. This effective system incorporating the three Sika products is used in every Safelite installation across the country.
Interestingly, during this installation Sika products were being used to repair the top floor of this parking garage. With Sika repair mortars, Pullman was repairing the concrete slab over the post-tension deck to withstand the upcoming Michigan winter. The contractors from Pullman were finishing up a section near the ramp when we arrived. Once the deck is fully repaired, the Chrysler employees can go back to racing the newest Chrysler models around the garage. In case anything goes wrong, we can recommend a great automotive glass replacement company.
