Rochester, NY – R. E. Kelly will restore 352 balconies for three buildings at the Keeler Apartments in Rochester. Although all of the balconies have the same design, the concrete repairs are unique to each balcony. While some balconies only require minor patching and a protective coating, others require significant rebar repair as well. Several different Sika products are used for this restoration based on the necessary repairs. We met with Chris Cameron from R. E. Kelly to see the progress of this project.
E. Kelly has been contracted for this large project because of their successful restoration of a nearby apartment complex. A swing stage was set up at the Keeler Apartments to reach all of the balconies. Chris explained that the Keller balconies are upheld by post tension steel cables. Because of this, the contractors must be careful when removing damaged concrete before applying SikaQuick VOH. The SikaQuick VOH repair mortar is ideal for balcony repairs as it can be applied overhead to fix the balcony’s underside. R. E. Kelly also recently covered the Keeler Apartment parking garage with a Sikalastic Traffic System. This system waterproofs the deck from the large snow accumulations in the Rochester winters. After R. E. Kelly completes the restoration project, the Keeler Apartments will feel brand new.
We also stopped at a bridge restoration project in upstate New York recently completed by DeBrino Caulking Associates, Inc. The Patroon Bridge in Albany carries roughly 70,000 motorists every day on Interstate 90 over the Hudson River. DeBrino used SikaTop 123 to repair the damaged columns, and reinforced the concrete with Sika Carbon Wrap 103c. The 148 million dollar repair project was completed on time and on budget without ever completely closing the bridge. Whether it’s an apartment or a bridge, Sika concrete repair products can be used to keep New York strong.
